CA Bull Elk Ranch began as a dream. Calvin and Gail Ansley, both coming from farming and ranching backgrounds, always wanted a ranch of their own. Of course, they didn’t want just an ordinary ranch they wanted an ELK ranch.  After many years of working toward that goal they purchased 160 acres that was in need of much tender loving care, it is now known as CA Bull Elk Ranch.
Rolling up their sleeves, and with the help of their two sons and a great bunch of friends, they began making the transformation. The ranch began in 2002 with only 20 bred cows and one good bull. Today CA Bull Elk Ranch has grown to over 85 animals!

In 2007, they began raising pheasants. This year they have added Bobwhite Quail. Gail is ranch manager (which really means she is the hands on day-to-day feeder, waterier, fence builder, bookkeeper, salesperson, and all around help.) Calvin has to stay on the road as an equipment operator to fund the ranch as it is getting started (it isn't cheap to raise elk).

In 2004, they added a new helper to the ranch. Miah, their granddaughter, came to live with them. She has grown up feeding elk and pheasants (she began feeding elk when she was only 2 weeks old). She even has a car seat in the tractor. Her favorite part of the ranch is gathering pheasant eggs, chicken eggs, and quail eggs. She has learned to count by collecting the eggs and counting them as they are placed in the trays to be ready for the incubator. She reports to Papa every night as to the amount of eggs gathered.
