Clear Springs Foods
The late Ted Eastman,a native of Buhl,Idaho, was an employee at the Snake River Trout Company for many years. The company was founded in 1928 and was the first to produce rainbow trout for commercial use. The trout was raised to market size and transported in iced freight boxes to Shoshone, then by train to Chicago. After working for Snake River Trout for twenty-two years,Ted decided to start his own company and founded Clear Springs Foods in 1966.
Clear Springs Foods initial idea was to simply raise fish, but they were unable to find another company to do the processing so they began to produce hand cut, boned and dressed fish for consumers. But as sales of the boneless rainbow trout fillet increased, the company realized they could no longer hand process their product.Clear Springs Foods was the first company in North America to use robotic cutters to process their fillets. Today the company produces, processes and distributes their fish products and are well known in the food industry and as a supplier to major restaurant chains throughout the country.
Clear Springs is committed to research and are leaders in fish culture and aquaculture. The employee-owned company manages five fish farms and formulates their own feed for their stock. Clear Springs Foods is currently the worldʼs largest producer of rainbow trout products and markets their products through retail and food service throughout North America.
