Hours of Operation
Swensen’s Magic Market began more than 40 years ago as a small, neighborhood grocery store on Main Street in Twin Falls. That original store was fairly typical for the era – wood floors; milk, eggs, and produce from local farmers and dairies; and a small apartment above the store where the owner, Sherman Swensen, lived with his family.
Over the years, this tiny corner market blossomed into a thriving business with 5 stores located in Twin Falls, Paul, and Rupert – all owned and managed by the sons of the original owner. The Swensen family managed to build a successful, independent, family-owned business with deep Magic Valley roots, despite increasingly fierce competition from large chain stores in the 70’s and 80’s, and giant discount warehouse stores in the 90’s.
In the early nineties, the original business split into three smaller corporations owned and operated by Marion, Richard, and Jerry Swensen. In March of 2001, tragedy struck the family and the family business. Jerry and Richard Swensen were killed suddenly in an automobile accident. Despite this tremendous loss, Marion Swensen decided to press forward with the family business. And Andrew and Ben Swensen, two of Jerry’s sons, also stepped up to help manage and operate the stores. Because of an aggresive approach to selling groceries, a talented group of employees, remarkably loyal customers, and good store locations, the stores have continued to prosper
