Peters Family Farms: An Idaho Farmer Origin Story
Peters Family Farms’ produce plates up on tables across Idaho, reminding us that the story of every meal begins far beyond the kitchen. Owner and farmer Bonnie Peters didn’t grow up dreaming of tractors or endless rows of crops. She was raised on a small family farm in Hansen, Idaho, where her dad, uncles, and grandfather worked the land, but farming wasn’t on her radar—until one day she decided she wanted to carve her own path.
Today, Bonnie cultivates more than 100 varieties of fruits and vegetables on her farm in Jerome. She thrives on working with chefs and like-minded food lovers who understand the rhythm of the seasons and value ingredients at their peak. For her, the challenge of growing for that crowd is what makes farming exciting—she’s always willing to do what it takes to deliver the very best of each season.
Peter’s Family Farms has a diversified model that includes CSA shares for the general public, as well as wholesale and working closely with local chefs. Bonnie especially enjoys tailoring her crops to meet the needs of the kitchen, growing with intention for those who celebrate seasonality and value food at its peak.
What sets Bonnie apart isn’t just her independent spirit, but her tenacity and willingness to experiment. Idaho’s soil can be challenging—her five years growing strawberries in less-than-perfect conditions is a case in point. “We just did it,” she says simply. That solution-minded spirit of trial and error breathes life into every season’s harvest.

For Bonnie, farming is more than a livelihood—it’s where she feels most at home. She describes her work in the soil as a spiritual practice, a place where planting seeds and watching them flourish feels like both purpose and prayer. Bonnie follows her own instincts, and it’s that freedom and authenticity that make her food—and the meals it inspires—truly remarkable.
