Richard’s Cafe Vicino: October Restaurant of the Month

Richard LangstonHead Chef Richard Langston at Richard’s Cafe Vicino has mastered the art of combining a welcoming and friendly atmosphere with fine Italian dining. Vicino (va-CHEE-no) is Italian for ‘neighborhood,’ which couldn’t be a more perfect name for the North End neighborhood restaurant. At Richard’s Cafe Vicino you are treated like family and served a sensational meal that will make you second guess whether you’re dining in Idaho or Italy.

Chef Richard and staff share a culinary philosophy that celebrates the integrity of ingredients and prepares his dishes simply to showcase the natural flavors of the products. Richard’s Cafe Vicino serves fantastic seasonal menus featuring Idaho grown and raised ingredients including locally sourced produce, fresh fish, meat and game whenever possible. Chef Richard and his staff work with Idaho’s Bounty to source their produce, meats, fish, eggs honey and other ingredients produced within 200 miles of their front door. Local suppliers include: Rollingstone Chèvre, Matthews All-Natural Meats, Waterwheel Gardens, Sweet Valley Organics, and Peaceful Belly.

The affordable wines on their wine list are hand-selected by Chef Richard to complement the menu. Selections are sourced from both the old and new worlds: Italy, France, Spain, Oregon, California, Washington and Idaho. Idaho’s growing, award-winning wine industry has allowed Chef Richard to include great wines produced right here in southwest Idaho, including Cinder, Coiled and Fraser. The servers at Richard’s pride themselves on giving guests a great dining experience and the visitors boast about the exceptional food, drink and service.

With a rotating seasonal menu and daily specials adding to the variety of choices for both lunch and dinner, it’s hard to recommend one particular thing to order. Our best advice: order a special of the day and ask the server to point out what’s local on the menu when you visit – and visit soon! This tucked-away North End staple will soon no longer be as of December 2016. Chef Richard will close Richard’s Cafe Vicino and move to his new permanent home to the Inn at 500 Capitol downtown Boise. But fret not, Richard will still keep the same menu, quality and service as his neighborhood Cafe Vicino, only the name will change to simply, Richard’s.
