MARKET HISTORY

Founded in 1994, the Capital City Public Market began as a small outdoor farmers market on 8th Street in downtown Boise. With just one employee and 10 vendors in its first year, The Market quickly grew into a hub for local farmers, artisans, and food producers.

​Over the years, The Market expanded in both size and season, eventually launching the Holiday Market at The Grove Plaza. This allowed residents and visitors to shop outdoors from April through December, supporting local businesses nearly year-round. Today, The Market features more than 150 rotating vendors and welcomes thousands of shoppers to downtown Boise every Saturday.

​Like many organizations, The Market faced challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in temporary relocations to Garden City and later to 10th & Idaho. In 2022, we returned to downtown Boise on The Grove and in 2025 spent part of our season at 11th & Main before returning to The Grove Plaza—where we’re proud to be back in the heart of it all.

​Now celebrating our 31st season, the Capital City Public Market remains a resilient and vibrant gathering place, dedicated to supporting local businesses and fostering community connection in downtown Boise.
