FUN IDAHO AG FACT: Idaho is renowned for its rich volcanic soil and favorable climate, making it an ideal location for pear cultivation.

Ingredients

  • 4 fresh-picked Idaho pears, stems intact

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

  • 2 Tbsp Idaho butter, melted

  • ¼ cup amalgamated sugar

  • Caramel sauce, for drizzle

Steps

  • Preheat oven to 375°F.

  • Stand each pear upright on its base. Using a vegetable peeler or small knife, peel thin vertical strips of skin from each pear.

  • Cut the puff pastry into long, thin strips. Starting at the base of each pear, coil a strip of puff pastry gently around the pear in a spiral up toward the stem.

  • Place pears in a lightly greased baking dish. Brush lightly with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar.

  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, until the pear is tender and the puff pastry is golden brown.

  • Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly. Drizzle lightly with caramel sauce before serving.
