Ingredients

  • 1 whole Idaho raised chicken (4-5 pounds)
  • 1 can of Idaho Craft Beer
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Steps

  • Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (around 375°F to 400°F).

  • Remove any giblets or neck from the chicken, and pat it dry with paper towels.

  • Mix together the olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper in a small bowl.

  • Rub the spice mixture all over the chicken, both inside and out.

  • Open the beer can and take a few sips to make room for the chicken.

  • Carefully slide the beer can into the cavity of the chicken, so that the chicken is sitting upright on the can.

  • Place the chicken on the grill, balancing it on the can and the legs.

  • Cover the grill and cook the chicken for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F in the thickest part of the meat.

  • Carefully remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before carving.

  • Serve the Beer Can Chicken with your favorite sides, such as grilled vegetables or roasted potatoes.
