Idaho Farm Stands Guide

Discover Idaho’s Farm Stands: Your Direct Link to Local Farmers and Fresh Food

Farm stands create an authentic connection between you and Idaho’s dedicated farmers, ranchers, and food artisans. When you visit a farm stand, you’re supporting local growers by purchasing fresh, seasonal products harvested just steps from the stand itself. Whether you’re stopping by an on-farm stand, a roadside self-serve stand, or a collaborative farm market, you’re embracing the true spirit of farm-to-table.

Types of Idaho Farm Stands:

Roadside or Self-Serve Stands:

Conveniently located along highways and country roads, they offer a variety of seasonal products from farmers’ fields.

Creameries and other “specialty” farm stands:

From ice cream shops sourcing milk from their own dairies to bakeries using grains grown by the farmer/ baker, these establishments epitomize the farm-to-fork ethos. Savor products crafted with care and a deep connection to the land.

On-Farm Stands:

These are located right on the farm, where you can purchase produce, meats, dairy, and other goods directly from the source.

Collaborative farm Stands:

These stands feature products not only from the host farm but also from other local producers. Enjoy a curated selection of the best that Idaho’s farming community has to offer, all in one place.

why choose Idaho preferred

Established in 2002 with USDA funding, the Idaho Preferred® program promotes awareness and sales of locally grown and crafted agricultural products. Through advertising, events, retail partnerships, and educational outreach, it supports over 300 participating Idaho producers who meet strict local sourcing standards.

Products labeled Idaho Preferred must be:
  • Products labeled Idaho Preferred must be:
  • Wine made with at least 95% Idaho-grown grapes
  • Fresh produce grown in Idaho
  • Processed foods with at least 20% Idaho ingredients
  • Meat raised or processed in Idaho

The program highlights Idaho’s wide agricultural diversity—beyond famous potatoes—to include seasonal fruits, vegetables, meats, breads, dairy, wines, and specialty goods like jams and pickled vegetables.
